doll parts

I bought this petticoat skirt a while back because I loved the color and the softness of it but I haven't been able to figure out how to wear it (aside from under other skirts and dresses).  I'm working on it, though. The best thing about the skirt is that it reminds me of a Degas painting and that just can't be viewed as a negative in my world.  However, I have come to the conclusion that it should probably be reserved for special occasions (or for twirling around the house! haha) and perhaps not for running errands which, incidentally, is what I did while wearing it over the weekend. But, hey, I only got a couple of strange looks so whatever. I think coupling it with a denim shirt helped to tone down the prima ballerina aspect a tiny bit...
I also think that watching Courtney Love, Behind the Music right before I left the house helped fuel my "I don't care what other people think - I'm wearing this to Trader Joe's and wherever else I fancy! so there" mentality.  Interesting BTM by the way - I think I like her more now. funny how that happens when I watch those.

every breath you take

I came across the following 90s Vogue Editorial inspired by one of my favorite films, À bout de souffle (aka Breathless) on one of my new favorite blogs, See Emily Play.  Fitting because a  month or so ago I was lucky enough to see a screening of the film's new 50th Anniversary print at the TMC Film Festival and Jean-Paul Belmondo (the films star, now 77!) was there for an interview. The film has it's never looked better - I think they are releasing it on DVD in the near future too.  Of course, there is no one else like Jean Seberg but this Editorial is a great tribute to her and to the film...

I should also mention that the lovely ladies of Rodarte have collaborated with Rialto films and created limited edition t-shirts and movie posters in commemoration of the 50th anniversary! One more reason to love the Sisters Mulleavy! But I have to say, I think the t-shirt could have been much better.  I made my own years ago, it's awesome and it cost about 10x less than theirs. Oh well, I still love them!

6 months...

I was cleaning up my Macbook's Photobooth and couldn't help but laugh at the random (often silly) photos I take now and then out of pure boredom! It's not like they ever get used; they just sit there until finally I delete them. So... since I'm a little under the weather today, I figured I'd post a few of them here! Here's me as seen through Photobooth over the past six months...

Come on, kids! I know I'm not the only person out there who uses Photobooth (or some other device) to take random pictures of themselves for no reason at all!

Happy Wednesday! I'm off to make some tea and watch some Ab Fab in my pajamas! xdjrd

it's a game of give and take...

Or, I guess, lost and found in this case. I was cleaning out my drawers over the weekend (because I couldn't fit anything else into them!) when I stumbled upon this little vintage dress which I had all but forgotten about.  I then threw it on to go get a coffee at the Canyon Store and ended up keeping it on for most of the day.  No zippers, no buttons, the easiest thing in the world to take on and off! How could I have exiled it to the depths of my miscellaneous drawer!

Do you ever forget about items of clothing you have buried in your closet or at the bottom of your drawers?  It's such a lovely feeling to find them again, isn't it?

hey look, me outside of my yard for once!

By the way, I highly recommend listening to 1960s girl groups while driving (or walking) around town in the summer. It's the perfect season for it AND it is my theory that you can't be stressed out, sad or mad while listening to the Supremes Pandora station! You just can't.

DJRD Blogger Style featrue on TFS

I was recently interviewed by The Fashion Spot for their Blogger Style feature which you can check out HERE!

This was kind of exciting for me because TFS was the first fashion-oriented site I was a member of (way back in 2005, I think!) and it was one of the reasons I discovered the fashion blogging world. Thanks to Nika & TFS for inviting me to do this!

Have a lovely Saturday!

I went down to the garden

It's been a fairly mellow week aside from a surprise (albeit brief) visit from a friend of mine who lives in Seattle. He's actually from Sweden originally, married an American and they now live in Seattle.  Anyway, it's been a few years since we've been face to face so it was a lovely surprise! Other than that it's been work, music, pups and movies...and clothes.

I've seen this h&m blouse making the rounds on a few blogs but I really like the fit and the color of it so I thought I'd post it anyway. I don't have many peach items hanging in my closet but once I tried it on I couldn't let it go!  I do I wonder if I was possibly (subconsciously) thinking of the artwork on Karen Elson's album when I bought this - it has almost the exact dusty peach color throughout the booklet (yes, I buy actual albums - because I'm old school like that). Once I made the peach connection it seemed obvious that I needed to wear the cute pin I got at her show last week with this outfit.

Oh, and I should mention I wore this to work - hence the blazer and the tights. tights + shorts = safe for work.

oh, why not a little Karen Elson to go along with the theme...

why dont you go where fashion sits...

I felt pretty jazzy in this outfit but (despite my post title) it was spawned from the fact Saturday was the USA vs. England World Cup match.  More specifically because "the Brit" basically told me that I had to cheer for the US since I'm a "Yank" (sidenote: I'm not much of a sports fan but "football" ehem...I mean "soccer" {you know, since I'm a "Yank" and all}  is acceptable).

What did my comeback involve? Fashion, of course!  I came out in this red, white & blue shirt and a blue headscarf and chanted "USA,USA" in my most obnoxious/deep voice as I took my place next to him on the couch. And then...they unexpectedly tied! ha! that'll teach him to make me pick sides! Once the game was finished, feeling a little overly patriotic, I traded the head scarf in for the sequined beret you see here and danced around for the rest of the day.

photophile: sarah moon

When I first came across her photography I wanted to do a Sarah Moon post but, like a lot of things I come across in my day to day browsing, these images got lost in the void that is my computer and only just recently emerged. I thought they'd be a good footnote for this lovely June Friday...

Beautiful, non? Sarah was born in 1941 in France and has been working since the late 1960s. more here.

Have a wonderful weekend!
